National Mill Day

Open house

30 May 2026 - 30 May 2026

At Molen De Hoop, a beautiful new reception area was completed at the end of 2025. At the same time, modern sanitary facilities were installed, suitable for up to 24 camper vans.

The new building has been constructed in the characteristic Zaan style and can accommodate around 40 people. Outside, you’ll find a cozy terrace overlooking the historic windmill – a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Altogether, it is a great addition to this special national monument.

On Saturday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m., the alderman of the Municipality of Schagen will perform the official opening. Between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., we will host an open house, and everyone is welcome to drop by and take a look at the new building while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Discover our mill during Heritage Open Days!

12 September 2026 - 13 September 2026

On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, our mill will open its doors wide to visitors. Between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, you are warmly invited to explore it free of charge. And if the wind is on our side, you can watch how wheat is traditionally ground into fresh flour.

For lovers of technology: thanks to the new facilities, we can now regularly run our impressive Ruston Hornsby diesel engine from 1930. During this special weekend, it will be up and running, giving you the chance to experience this piece of engineering history in action.

Come along, soak up the atmosphere, and experience the mill like never before!
